Harriet Bulkeley is a Professor and Deputy Executive Dean for Research in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Health, Department of Geography, Durham University and Professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. She has published 8 books, several edited collections and over 80 papers (Google Scholar 34,200 citations; H Index 76). Her work includes An Urban Politics of Climate Change (Routledge 2015) and Accomplishing Climate Governance (CUP 2016). She has been Principle Investigator for projects totalling over £19M and co-ordinates the Horizon Europe NATURESCAPES project (2023 – 2027) examining how nature-based solutions can contribute to biodiversity, climate change and social justice across urban regions globally. She has an extensive record of international collaboration and has served as a co-investigator on a wide range of projects, including transdisciplinary research working across the social and natural sciences, arts and humanities and with policy and practice. She has been included in the Highly Cited Researchers list of the top 1% of researchers internationally four times since 2016 and is regularly invited to speak to academic, policy and practitioner audiences across the world. Harriet was a contributing author to Working Group III of the IPCC’s 5th Assessment Report for Chapters 12 (Policy) & 14 (Urban). \\

Harriet has undertaken commissioned research and advisory roles for the UK Government, European Commission, NGOs, UN-Habitat and World Bank. In 2014 she was awarded the King Carl XVI Gustaf’s Professorship in Environmental Science and in 2018 was granted the Back Award by the Royal Geographical Society in recognition of the policy impact of her work on climate change. In 2019, she was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences and as a Fellow of the British Academy. Harriet was appointed to the Scientific Council of the European Research Council and to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2023.
