Dr. Chen received his medical school training from Shandong University (China), and his Ph.D. training from the University of Manitoba (Canada). After a successful postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, he joined the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania in 1995. He was a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at University of Pennsylvania until last year when he joined the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (China) as its founding Dean of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. \\
Dr. Chen is a world-renowned immunologist who has made lasting impacts on health sciences. He is an elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, elected member of the American Kunkel Society, recipient of the Colyton Prize for Autoimmune Research, invited speaker for more than 100 international meetings, and author of a number of invited reviews and editorials. \\

Dr. Chen is an internationally recognized leader for the medical and biological research community. Serving as a leader, advisor, or advocate, he has chaired a number of local, national and international committees and advised many governmental and professional agencies in America, Europe and Asia on issues related to biomedical education, research and polices. \\

Dr. Chen is an exceptionally creative scholar. He has published more than 160 research articles with a total citation >18000 and an H-index of 66 (Google Scholar); he is ranked by the Stanford University as one of the Top 1% Scientists for Lifetime Scientific Impact. \\

Dr. Chen is also an active servant of the health sciences community. As the Chair of the Advisory Committee of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Dr. Chen devoted enormous amounts of time to advise the society on issues related to grant funding, fundraising, research priorities, and public policies. As a Section Editor and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Immunology, Dr. Chen has made many important contributions to the immunology community by providing public policy advices, organizing peer reviews of research articles, organizing symposia for annual society meetings, etc. As a Member of more than 30 grant review panels of funding agencies in North America, Europe and Asia, Dr. Chen provided invaluable advices to the respective agencies about the merits and weaknesses of grant applications.\\ \\
