*1988-1992: Consultant to Marion Merrill Dow, Inc., Kansas City, Missouri, U.S.A. 
*1992-1995: Head of the Neuroscience Therapeutic Area in the Wellcome Research Laboratories (Beckenham). The principal disease targets were neurodegeneration, pain and epilepsy.
*1998-2000: Director of CereXus Ltd, a joint venture established between the pharmaceutical company “Cerebrus Ltd.” and The Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research. This was aimed at the identification of novel agents acting on voltage-dependent sodium channels for protecting brain cells in stroke and head injury.
*2000-2002: Collaborative programme with Vernalis Ltd. following their purchase of CereXus.
*2003- date: Director of ProAxon Ltd, a spin-out company of the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research specialising in neuroprotection.
*2006-2007: Consultant to Pfizer Canada Inc.
