Alice Valkarova  finished study of nuclear  and particle physics in Charles University in Prague. Her  Ph.D. she gained in 1980 in Russia (former Soviet Union) during her long-term stay at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna where she analyzed antiproton-proton interactions. In 1983 she obtained prize of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research  for research in antiproton-proton interactions.\\

In 1997  she started participating in a H1 experiment which studied electron-proton interactions  at HERA electron-proton particle accelerator in DESY laboratory  (Hamburg, Germany). She has been the author and co-author of many publications studying electron-proton interactions published from the year 1992 onwards. In the period 2009-2011 she was  a member of Executive committee of H1 experiment (laboratory DESY, Hamburg).\\

In 2001 she received a DrSc. (Doctor of Science) degree for „Diffraction and Photoproduction at HERA“. In 2006-2014 she was a President of the Czech Physical Society and a member of Presidium of the Union of Czech Mathematicians and Physicists.   Since 2009 she is the member of national committee of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics,  IUPAP. \\

Alice Valkarova has authored about 285 peer-reviewed journal publications to date  mainly as co-author and member of the collaboration (Web of Science). During that time she actively participated in many prestigious conferences, often as an invited speaker.\\

In 2015 she received the Milada Paulová Award for physics, for recognition of lifelong research achievements and contribution to advancement of research which was given to her by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Czech Republic.  In the period of 2010-2016, she was member of the ERC Advanced Grant Panel   PE2 „Fundamental Constituents of Matter“.\\

In November 2016 Dr. Valkarova was appointed by the Government of the Czech Republic as a President of the Czech Science Foundation the most important grant agency in Czech Republic which supports all science disciplines of basic research. Her four-year  term has been completed in December 2020 and then she becomes a member of the five-members Presidium of agency for another four years. She is Fellow of Institute of Physics and a member of European Physical Society. \\

From 2021, she is a member of the ERC Scientific Council, and from 2023, she is the chair of the Working Group on Widening European Participation whose  mission is to capitalize on the full potential for frontier research in Europe without departing from the ERC's principle of excellence.\\
