!!Melanie Wald-Fuhrmann - Biography

From 1997-2002 Melanie Wald-Fuhrmann studied Musicology and Classics (Greek) at the universities of Rostock, Marburg, Salzburg (Austria) and the Freie Uviversität Berlin. She gained her M.A. degree from Berlin. Her doctoral studies were undertaken at the University of Zürich, where she gained her Ph.D. degree in 2005 with a study of Athanasius Kircher's Musurgia Universalis. Four years later she completed her Habilitation at the same university with a work on the concept and musical expression of melancholy in instrumental music around 1800.

From 2003 onwards she was placed in positions of responsibility at the Institute for Musicology of Zurich University, first as Research Assistant, then Teaching Assistant, finally Assistant Professor.
\\ \\
Her first full professorship was a post in Musicology at the Musikhochschule Lübeck, which she held from 2010-2011, before moving to the Humboldt-Universität, Berlin, in 2011 as professor for the Sociology and Historical Anthropology of Music.

In 2013 she became the founding director of the new Music Department in the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics, Frankfurt am Main.
