Since 1994 Waldemar Zacharasiewicz has been a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and its Committee for Literary Scholarship. In 2000 he was elected to Full Membership of the Academy.

Waldemar Zacharasiewicz has organized three international symposia in the field of American literature in Vienna and has also coordinated three international conferences on Canadian culture. He is currently Director of the Canadian Studies Center at the University of Vienna.
