Klaus F. Zimmermann has been Full Professor of Economics at Bonn University and Director of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA Bonn) since 1998. He has been President of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) since 2000. Since 2001, he has also been Honorary Professor of Economics at the Free University of Berlin, and Honorary Professor at Remnin University of Peking since 2006. He has been a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London since 1990. Klaus F. Zimmermann studied economics and statistics at the University of Mannheim, where he received his degree as Diplom Volkswirt, his doctorate and his habilitation. From 1989-1998, he was Full Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Munich, and Director of the SELAPO Center for Human Resources in Munich; from 1993-1995, he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics, University of Munich. Founder and Secretary of the European Society for Population Economics (ESPE), 1986-1992. President 1994 of the European Society for Population Economics. Programme Director for "Human Resources" (1991-1998) and "Labour Economics" (1998-2001) of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), London. For many years member of the Council of the European Economic Association, the European Society for Population Economics and of the German Economic Association.

Klaus Zimmermann has an impressive record as one of Germany’s most recognized economists and as a European leader in the field of labour economics, international economics and public sector economics. All over the years he published uninterruptedly numerous articles in the international literature on all these issues.

Recently, he was also actively engaged in European migration research. He is one of the founding fathers of population economics and has played a critical role in the development of economics of demography as a new discipline. His outreach is formidable: he is a member of many international teams and bodies in society through his popular presence in the media.
