Presentation of the Academic Palms to Adrian Bejan of Duke University #
On February 20, 2020, French Ambassador to the United States Philippe Etienne presented the insignia of Chevalier in the Order of Academic Palms (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques) to Adrian Bejan, PhD, professor at Duke University in North Carolina and a distinguished member of the Physics and Engineering Sciences of Academia Europaea. Prof. Bejan was decorated for his involvement in science, education and transatlantic exchanges.
Professor Bejan is the "J.A. Jones Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering” at Duke University. He is a prominent researcher in the field of thermodynamics and his scientific activities focus on engineering and applied physics. He collaborated with French researchers, co-authoring numerous publications. In 2001, Henri-Poincaré University in Nancy conferred on him the title of Doctor honoris causa. In 2014, the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon conferred on him the title of Doctor honoris causa, for his discovery of the "Constructal Law" and his long contribution to science.
The Palmes Académas are one of the oldest and most prestigious orders in the French Republic. Created in 1808 by an imperial decree of Napoleon Bonaparte, the Order of Academic Palms is intended to honor those working in education and higher education and who have distinguished themselves in the educational or research fields. The Academic Palms can be awarded to foreigners and French nationals living abroad who actively contribute to the expansion of French culture and education in the world.
