2020 Arthur HOLMES Medal and Honorary Membership of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) for Prof. Dingwell#
Prof. Donald B. Dingwell (AE Vice-President), Chair of Mineralogy and Petrology and Director of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich has been awarded the 2020 Arthur HOLMES Medal and Honorary Membership of the European Geosciences Union (EGU) for his scientific contributions to the geosciences.
The European Geosciences Union (founded 2003), is the largest geoscientific organization in Europe with ca. 20,000 members. The HOLMES Medal has been conferred since 1983 on 30 leading geoscientists.
The HOLMES Medal is the second EGU award for Prof. Dingwell who was the 2008 recipient of the Robert Wilhelm BUNSEN Medal of its Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology, Volcanology (GMPV) Divison.
Dingwell helped to found the EGU and was its president during a critical phase in the years 2011-2013.
Prof. Dingwell will receive the HOLMES Medal at the annual EGU Conference in Vienna where he will also deliver a medal lecture.
