Statement from the President of Academia Europaea #
Academia Europaea has this past summer issued two messages in relation to the action by the ‘Tribunal de Cuentas’ in Madrid against one of our most distinguished members, Professor Andreu Mas-Colell. The second of these messages was a mistake, did not reflect our position and has caused confusion.
In view of the apparent contradiction in our communications, Academia Europaea wishes to reiterate our deep appreciation of Andreu Mas-Colell for his unselfish service to the scientific community in many different functions, including as Secretary-General and founder of the European Research Council. In 2017, Andreu Mas-Colell received Academia Europaea's Erasmus Medal, the highest honour the Academy can bestow on any individual, for his pioneering research in Economics. We are privileged by Professor Mas-Colell's continuing involvement in our academy and apologize for the mistake made by us.
Sierd Cloetingh
President of Academia Europaea
