Demosthenes Bouros - Biography#

Demosthenes Bouros is an emeritus professor of Pneumonology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

He was trained at the Harvard University and at the Boston University, USA, and the Royal Brompton Hospital, UK.He was awarded as visiting professor at the Medical University of Vienna by the European Respiratory Society (ERS). He is the most cited Greek respiratory physician and among the most highly cited respiratory physicians in pulmonary fibrosis worldwide (2%). He has published >550 articles (Scopus), >426 PUBMED, hasv>39.000 citations, H index 83 (Google Scholar), is/was member of the Editorial Board andvreviewer of many prestigious medical journals, including LANCET-Respiratory Medicine, CHEST,vPULMONOLOGY, RESPIRATION, BMC series, etc., and Editor-in-chief of the official journal of the Hellenic ThoracicvSociety Pneumon. Member of the ATS/ERS/JRS/ALAT committee for the idiopathic pulmonaryvfibrosis (IPF) official guidelines (2011 and 2018 and the 2021 revision) and the ATS/ERS newvclassification of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) (2013). He was elected as a foundation member of the prestigious fellows of the European RespiratoryvSociety (FERS), is member of the board of the Hellenic Thoracic Society, fellow of the AmericanvCollege of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (FAPSR). He is anvhonorary member of many societies of Pneumonology in various countries. He is the nationalvrepresentative to European Union of Medical Specialists UEMS) for the rare diseases. He hasvbeen director of two master degree programs, in “clinical pharmacology and therapeutics” andvin “sleep medicine”. He is an international expert in interstitial lung diseases ILDs).

He has been elected and served in many official positions of the ERS and ATS. He is mentor ofvmany young doctors and invited lecturer of many scientific societies internationally.vHis main research interests include the pathophysiologic/pathogenetic mechanisms andvtreatment of pulmonary fibrosis and other interstitial lung diseases. Among them is the adiposevtissue mesenchymal stem cell translational research and the application in chronic lung diseases.
