Fields of Scholarship
- Protein folding
- Protein misfolding, protein aggregation, amyloid fibril formation
- Study, at a molecular level, of the process by which native proteins convert into aggregation-prone partially folded states
- Study, in molecular depth, of the conversion of partially folded states of proteins into amyloid fibrils and precursor oligomers
- Relationship between structure and toxicity of protein oligomers in cellular and animal models
- Investigation of molecular chaperones as inhibitors of the toxicity of protein oligomers
- Study, at a molecular level, of the process of native-like aggregation
- Effect of membrane lipids, such as the GM1 ganglioside, on protein aggregation and associated toxicity
- Effect of extracellular agents, such as glycosamynoglycans, on protein aggregation and associated toxicity
- Editing of mathematical algorithms able to predict fundamental aspects of protein aggregation in vitro and in vivo
