Stefan Esders - Biography#


Born 1963 in Hildesheim (Lower Saxony, Germany). 1982 - 1990 History and Classics (Latin) universities of Heidelberg, Freiburg and Oxford. 1990 state exam. 1991 - 1993 doctoral fellow, ancient history, University of Freiburg, 1993 dissertation "Römische Rechtstradition und merowingisches Königtum" ("summa cum laude"). 1993 - 1994 postdctoral fellow, Max-Planck-Institut für Geschichte, Göttingen. 1994 - 1995 postdoctoral fellow, University of Münster. 1996 - 2000 assistant professor of medieval history, University of Bochum. 2000 - 2006 University lecturer in ancient and medieval history, University of Bochum. 2004 Habilitation in medieval history and auxiliary sciences , University of Bochum. 2006 Full Professur of late antique and early medieval history, Freie Universität Berlin. 2013 Member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. 2019 Fellow in the Humanities Council and the Program in Medieval Studies, Princeton University.
