Danielle Jacquart - Biography#
Danielle Jacquart is the leading scholar of the history of medieval medicine, with a long and detailed record of publications. They fall into two categories; Paris medicine, and the interrelationships of medicine and science in the medieval Mediterranean world. Her biographical work on French physicians culminated in the 1998 volume, La médicine médiévale dans le cadre parisien, an enormously rich survey of the medical life of medieval Paris, which housed the dominant medical university of Northern Europe.
Danielle Jacquart's early training was in Arabic as well as in Ltin, and she has continued to edit both Arabic texts and, especially, medieval Latin texts derived from them. Her eminence in this field is recognised worldwide by invitations to lecture and, often, to collaborate, as her list of publications shows. From 2000 - 2006, she headed the Eco,le doctorale at the EPHE and she is an active member of the boards of half a dozen international journals on medieval philosophy and science.
