Karl Ove Moene - Biography#
Professor Karl Ove Moene was born in 1949 and received his education as an economist at the University of Oslo, where he obtained his doctorate in 1984. He became professor of economics at the University of Oslo in 1987. He has been visiting scholar at Stanford University (1982-83) and at the University of California Los Angeles (1991). He has also held the position of visiting professor of political science and economics at Northwestern University (1998). Since 2007 he has been head of the Centre of Equality, Social Organization and Performance (ESOP) at the University of Oslo, a centre that was established at his initiative. He was editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Economics 1992-99.
Professor Moene's research has been in the areas of labour economics, income distribution and political economy. He has applied his theoretical tools of analysis both to the study of the welfare state and developing countries.
