Giuseppe Cesare Perola - Curriculum Vitae#


1965: Start of the scientific career at “Universita’ degli Studi” in Milan, within the group led by Prof. Giuseppe Occhialini and his wife Prof. Connie Dilworth. 1968-1970, two years spent with an ESRO fellowship at the Leiden Observatory to learn about and work on extragalactic radio astronomy. Associate Professor of Physics for students in Biology since 1971 till 1980 at the Milan University.

1980: Full Professor in Astronomical and Astrophysical Disciplines: first at “Universita’ La Sapienza” in Rome till 1992; thence at “Universita’ Roma 3”, where he moved as co-founder of the Science Faculty and the Physics Departement, till 2007, when he decided for an early retirement due to private constraints.

Main fields of interest: Origin of Cosmic Rays. Radiogalaxies and their interaction with the environment. Physical properties of Active Galactic Nuclei and the growth of Super Massive Black Holes therein. Science with Space Missions, in particular in the X-Ray band (he led the Group which, before launch, identified and internationally publicized the scientific goals of the italian-dutch BeppoSAX mission). Visual Art and Culture.

Awards: AAS HEAD 1998 Rossi Prize, shared with the BeppoSAX team and dr. Jan van Paradijs, for the discoveries which led to the solution of the 30 year old problem of fixing the distances of the Gamma Ray Burst sources to cosmological values.
