Professor Grażyna Stochel obtained MSc degree in Chemistry at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the Jagiellonian University (JU) in Kraków, Poland. In 1983 she was awarded her PhD degree. She was postdoctoral Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the Universities in: Frankfurt am Main (1987), Regensburg (1988), Witten-Herdecke (1991), Erlangen - Nurnberg (1998), and post-doc fellow at the University of Ferrara (1994, 1995). In 1993 she received the Doctor of Sciences (habilitation) degree and in 2001 Professor in Chemical Sciences title from the President of Poland.

In 2016 professor Grażyna Stochel was elected Corresponding Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS).



Grażyna Stochel is Full Professor at the Inorganic Chemistry Department, Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University in Kraków , Poland (since 2001). Leader of the Coordination and Bioinorganic Physicochemistry Group; Coordinator of Laser Photolysis Laboratory, and Biomedical Chemistry Laboratory, Visiting Professor at the Orleans University;

Member of the Jagiellonian University Council (elected in 2019); Dean (2008-2016); Deputy Dean (1998-2008) of the Faculty of Chemistry Jagiellonian University.



She was four times elected member of the Jagiellonian University Senate (2005-2019). In 2016 was elected member of the Central Commission for Scientific Degrees and Titles; member of the Chemistry Committee of PAS (2012-2021), member of Scientific Councils of : Physical Chemistry Institute PAS, Bioorganic Chemistry Institute PAS, Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry PAS. Since 2016 member of Coimbra Chemistry Centre Advisory Board.



Her research field is Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Photochemistry and Photophysics, Medicinal Chemistry and Functional Materials. Research activity is focused on: mechanisms of inorganic and bioinorganic reactions; photochemistry and photophysics of coordination compounds; photocatalysis; metal compounds, small molecules and light in biology, environment and medicine; medicinal chemistry and functional materials. Author and co-author of more than 200 publications (ca. 4800 citations, H-index 39), 17 patents; author or co-editor of 5 scientific books. Supervisor of 26 PhDs and over 40 MSc and graduate students. Involved in more than 50 funded research projects (leading more of half of these) and organization of ca. 60 international and national conferences and scientific meetings. Member of Polish Chemical Society; European High Pressure Research Group, European Photochemistry Association.
