Michal Tendera - Biography#
Michal Tendera, MD is Professor of Medicine at the Department of Cardiology and Structural Heart Diseases, Medical University of Silesia, and cardiology consultant at the Upper-Silesian Cardiac Center in Katowice, Poland. He trained at the Silesian School of Medicine in Katowice and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN (USA).
He served as President of the Polish Cardiac Society (1995-1998) and President of the European Society of Cardiology (2004-2006).
He is fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and American College of Cardiology.
Professor Tendera is member of the Editorial Boards of several cardiology journals, including European Heart Journal, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and International Journal of Cardiology. He is honorary member of seven European Cardiac Societies. He is active member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU), and corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN).
He has given a number of keynote invited lectures e.g. at the Royal College of Physicians (UK), University of Ferrara (Italy), Universities of Bern and Geneva (Switzerland), Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm (Sweden), and at all major international cardiology meetings.
His scientific interests include acute and chronic coronary artery disease, heart failure, structural heart disease and stem cell biology and therapy. He is an author of over 400 peer-reviewed papers and has been listed by Thomson Reuters as a highly cited researcher in clinical medicine in the last three years (2014-16).
