Jun Yu - Biography#
Jun Yu (MD, PhD) is Choh-Ming Li Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics, Director of Institute of Digestive Disease, Director of State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She obtained her MD and PhD at Tongji Medical University in 1994, and became a specialist in gastroenterology in Beijing University, followed by postdoctoral fellowships in Germany (1998-1999) and Hong Kong (1999-2002), and then a Senior Research Officer at University of Sydney Australia (2003-2005). She is a CUHK faculty member since Aug 2005.
Prof. Yu’s research interests are molecular pathogenesis, microbiome and diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets of gastrointestinal cancers (colon, stomach and liver) and fatty liver disease. She has 559 peer-reviewed publications (205 papers IF>10 and 101 papers IF>30), including Nature, Nat Biotechnol, Cancer Cell, J Clin Oncol, Ann Oncol, Gastroenterology, Cell Metab, Gut, Cell Res, Sci Transl Med, Nat Microbiol, Mol Cell, J Clin Invest, J Hepatol, Hepatology, and Nat Commun, etc. ISI citation is 38,728, ISI H index is currently 99 and google scholar H index is 117. She edited 3 books and authored 18 book chapters.
Prof. Yu is dedicated to translating basic scientific discoveries into commercialisable products with intellectual property including 29 patents approved and additional 48 patents filed in US, Europe, China and Taiwan. Some have been licensed to external companies for commercial developments. Two licenced molecular biomarkers for the non-invasive, early detection of colorectal cancer (miR-92a) and gastric cancer (methylated RNF180) have been approved by China FDA (#20183400108 and #20203400447) for clinical use. One additional licenced stool bacterial marker (M3 test) has been clinically used in Hong Kong and Asian countries for early diagnosis of adenoma and CRC. These molecular biomarkers will benefit patient care by improving early diagnosis and guiding the management of gastrointestinal cancers.
Prof. Yu is the panel member/or reviewer for 20 grant agencies of USA, Europe, China etc. Prof. Yu has also obtained 58 external competitive grants. She has given over 200 keynote/invited lectures in international/national conferences.
