Susanne Baer - Biography#


Susanne Baer, FBA (born 1964) is a German legal scholar and from 2011-2023 one of the 16 Justices of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany. Baer has been a Global Law Professor at the University of Michigan Law School since 2010 and is a professor of public law and gender studies at Humboldt University of Berlin. Since 2023, she is a Centennial Professor at LSE London. Baer directed the genderCompetenceCentre, advising the federal government on euality mainstreaming, until 2010; she founded the Law and Society Institute as well as the Fundamental Rights Law Clinic at Humboldt. Baer has also served as Vioice-President of the university, as vice dean of the Faculty of Law and Director of the Center of Gender Studies .
