Yann Barrandon is a world leader in stem cell biology and therapy. He participated in the first transplantations of epidermal stem cells on burn victims, identified stem cells in human keratinocyte cultures (PNAS 1987; Science 1987), hair follicles (Cell 1994, 2001) and the cornea (Nature 2008). He used hair follicle stem cells in clinical trials for skin transplantation (Transplantation, 2000) and contributed to the characterization of many skin diseases (Nat. Genet. 1993a, 1993b, 2000, 2005).
