Desmond King - Biography#

Desmond King, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of American Government, University of Oxford, 2002 and Professorial Fellow, Nuffield College, Oxford holds degrees from Trinity College, Dublin (BA Mod, First Class), Northwestern University (MA, Phd) and Oxford University (DLitt). He received the Bastable Prize (Trinity), the Minar Award (Northwestern), and a Choice “Outstanding Academic Book” 2012 for Still a House Divided: Race and Politics in Obama’s America with Rogers M Smith, Princeton University Press. He has held a Major Research Fellowship, Leverhulme Trust 2005-2008 (3 year buy-out) and a Research Readership, British Academy, 2000-2002 (2 year buy-out). He has been elected a Fellow the British Academy (2003), a Member of the Royal Irish Academy (2014) and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (2015).He is an Associate Member, Centre d’Etudies Europeennes, Sciences Po, Paris.

He is the author over a 100 papers in professional journals in such journals as American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Comparative Political Studies, Du Bois Review, Ethnic & Racial Studies, Governance, Journal of Politics, Minerva, Past & Present, Perspectives on Politics, Political Studies, Political Research Quarterly, Public Administration, Theory and Society, West European Politics, and World Politics, 7 coedited books and 10 books including Fed Power: The Federal Reserve and the Great Recession (with Lawrence R Jacobs (Oxford University, April 2016), Making Americans: Immigration, Race and the Diverse Democracy (Harvard University Press, 2001), and Actively Seeking Work?
