Biography#
Reinhard Mocek studied philosophy and biology at the University of Leipzig (1954 - 1959). Ph.D. 1965. From 1970 to 1991 he was Full Professor of philosophy at the University of Halle where he founded the Interdisciplinary Center for History and Philosophy of Science. 1993-1994 he was Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. In 2011 he became a member of the Academia Europaea. Reinhard Mocek was one of the leading scientists in the field of history and philosophy of science, particularly biology. Among his most important major publications: Neugier und Nutzen - Blicke in die Wissenschaftsgeschichte (1988); Johann Christian Reil (1759 - 1813) - Das Problem des Übergangs von der Spätaufklärung zur Romantik in Biologie und Medizin in Deutschland (1995); Die werdende Form - Eine Geschichte der Kausalen Morphologie (1998); Alfred Kühn (1885 - 1968) - Ein Forscherleben (2012).
