Johanna Myllyharju - Biography#
MSc in Genetics from the University of Turku, Finland, in 1989. PhD in Genetics in 1998 from the University of Turku, Finland, on chromatin proteins in 1998. Academy of Finland postdoctoral fellow in 1999-2002 and Research Fellow in 2002-2007 in the Collagen Research Unit, University of Oulu, Finland, mentor Prof. Kari Kivirikko. Since 2007 Professor of Molecular Biology in University of Oulu. Internationally leading expert on key enzymes, particularly proly 4-hydroxylases, of collagen synthesis and oxygen-dependent regulation of hypoxia response. Supervised 23 PhD or MD-PhD degrees to completion and ~20 post doctoral scientists. Several academic positions of trust, the most recent one as the Chair of the Board of the Academy of Finland – the Research Council of Finland in 2019-2021, the first female in this position.
