Mario J. Pérez-Jiménez - Curriculum Vitae#
Mario J. Pérez-Jiménez was born on November 13, 1948, in Bollullos Par
del Condado, Huelva, Spain.
He received his degree in Mathematics from the Barcelona University
(1971) and doctor degree in Mathematics from the Sevilla University
(1992).
In the past, he was assistant professor at the University of Barcelona
(1971-1983), and Guest Professor of the Huazhong University of Science
and Technology, Wuhan, China (from 2005). Currently, he is a full
professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the
University of Sevilla, where he is the head of the Research Group on
Natural Computing.
His main research fields include theory of computation, computational
complexity theory, natural computing (DNA computing and membrane
computing), bioinformatics, and computational modelling for systems
biology and population biology.
He has published twelve books in computer science and mathematics,
and over 250 scientific papers in international journals
(collaborating with many researchers worldwide).
He is a member of the editorial board or adviser of several ISI journals
such as Artificial Intelligence, BioSystems, Computer Modeling in
Engineering and Sciences, Discrete Applied Mathematics, International
Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, International Journal of
Computers, Communications and Control, International Journal of
Computer Mathematics, International Journal of Unconventional
Computing, Journal of Logic and Algebraic Programming, Journal of
Universal Computer Science, Neurocomputing, Pattern recognition
letters, SoftComputing, Theoretical Computer Science, Theory of Computing
Systems.
He is the main researcher in various European, Chinese, Spanish
and Andalusian research grants.
He has been involved in evaluation tasks at the regional, national,
and international level. He has been and independent
expert to the evaluation of NEST (New and Emergent Science and
Technology) proposals under the Sixth Framework Programme of the
European Community, and since May 2006 he has been an European Science
Foundation peer reviewer.
He has been the first scientific awarded with "Important Contributions
to Membrane Computing" under the auspices of the European Molecular
Computing Consortium, Edinburgh, 2008.
He is an ordinary member of the Institute of Mathematics of the
University of Seville. In 2010, he was nominated as a member of
the Council of the Foundation for the Research and Development of the
Information Technologies in Andalusia (2010)
