Mario Primicerio - Curriculum Vitae#
Emeritus Professor, formerly Full Professor in Applied Mathematics (1975-2011) at University of Firenze (Faculty of Sciences). Served as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Adjoint of the Rector for International Relations, Chairman of the Graduate School of Mathematics.
Member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and Accademia della Colombaria; has been Vice-President of the Italian Commission for UNESCO, and member of the Advisory Group to the Italian Minister of University. Mayor of the city of Florence from 1995 to 1999.
His research is in the area of Applied Mathematics. He is an expert in modelization of phenomena and processes in industry. Among his main scientific achievements, the results on free boundary problems for evolution PDE’s. Has been among the founders of European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry (ECMI), has been the leader of several research projects at international level, member of the governing boards of scientific societies and of editorial committees of scientific journals.
He has been President of the Italian Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIMAI), Chair of the Applied Mathematics Committee of the European Mathematical Society (EMS) and Officer of the International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (ICIAM).
He has chaired the ESF Forward Look project “Mathematics and Industry” and the Foundation “EU-Maths-in” - a network of national networks - for the promotion of industrial mathematics in Europe. For three calls he has been member of the Panel "Mathematics" for the Starting Grants of the European Research Council.
He authored about 160 research papers published on international journals, some volumes and textbooks. Gave courses and invited talks in Europe, US, Latin America, China, Japan. He is Christensen Fellow at St. Catherine's College, Oxford.
