Francisco Tirado - Biography#


Francisco Tirado, Professor in the Department of Computer Architecture and Automation of Complutense University of Madrid since 1978, first as Assistant Professor of Automation, and since 1986 as Full Professor of Computer Architecture and Technology. He has worked in different research areas within the domains of system architecture, parallel processing, IC design and bioinformatics. Within this scientific activity, he actively promoted the creation of the Computer Architecture Group. He was also leading the implementation of computer engineering studies of Complutense University in 1991.

He has participated uninterruptedly in research projects with national, European and regional funding, since 1973. He is the main inspirer and leader of the current Group of Architecture and Technology of Computer Systems (ArTeCS) UCM. He has also participated in various contracts for technology transfer to the industry, in fields ranging from simulation of physical systems, to optimization of parallel codes, through process automation. He has also participated in the organization of over 138 prestigious international conferences as General Chair, Program Chair, Program Committee Member, Session Chair, Guest Lecturer and reviewer of articles. He has authored over 242 publications in international journals and conferences.

Professor Tirado has supervised 15 PhD Theses. Between 1991 and 2008, he contributed to the design and management of the Spanish Research Program by his continued presence in evaluation and design committees, as well as, his services as Program Scientific Officer in the initial stages of the National Program, and Chair of the Computer Science and Technology area of ANEP (National Agency for Research Evaluation).

In recent years, he has strongly promoted the professional consolidation and social perception of Informatics as a scientific discipline in his country, through the creation in 2009 of the Spanish Society for Computer Science (SCIE), of which he was the first President. Previously, in 2005, he had already played a key role in the creation of the Spanish Society for Computer Architecture (SARTECO), of which he also was the first President. At present, he participates as a member of the board of the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE).
