Jennifer Anne Baird - Biography#

I have been at Birkbeck College since 2008, from 2019 as Professor of Archaeology. Themes in my research include the archaeology of Roman Syria (especially the sites of Dura-Europos and Palmyra), the history of Classical archaeology including critical approaches to archaeological archives, and the relationship between Classical archaeological sites and contemporary communities. My work has been funded by the Leverhulme Trust, the British Academy, and the Loeb Foundation among others. I have taught extensively and directed degree programmes at BA, MA, and PhD levels. I have a deep commitment to disciplinary citizenship, including longstanding roles in the Society for the Promotion for Roman Studies and the Institute for Classical Studies.
