Martin Crespi - Biography#
Dr. Crespi's laboratory is interested in deciphering the mechanisms of action of different riboregulators (regulatory non-coding RNAs) in root growth and development. Their results support the notion that non-coding RNAs through their interaction with specific regulatory genes (such as splicing factors or chromatin regulators) modulate the developmental adaptation of the root system to environmental conditions. Currently, his group is composed of 14 members (including 7 permanent). He has supervised18 PhD Thesis, 43 postdocs and 14 Masters.
Leader of 61 projects (9 CEE, 7 Marie Curie grants, International ANR, Royal Society-CNRS) and a major IDEX Multiscale Plant Phenotyping Pipeline 3P (coordinator, 3.4 Mega €), 9 of which are currently ongoing. Since 2010, he was: Member of the “CSIC International Evaluation Committee for sections 2 (Biology and Biomedicine)” and elaborated the document called Strategic Evaluation for CSIC, including the analyses of 24 Research Institutes from CSIC (2010). Member of the « European Plant Sciences Organisation EPSO » on behalf of CNRS (2010-2013). Reviewer of the START Program from the Austrian Science Fund, Austria (2011). Member of the Evaluation Committee of 14 Research Units (INRA, CNRS, CIRAD, IRD, 3 times as president). SAB of 5 Units in Spain, Reviewer for the ANEP: Evaluation of “Severo Ochoa and Maria de Zaestu” grants. Member of the Plant Integrative Biology Section 23 of CNRS (Evaluation and funding of 43 Institutes and 400 researchers, since 2015). Member of Juries for the nomination of researchers (Epigenetics and Symbiosis) in France.
He is regularly Project Reviewer for ANR; for ERC (4 times), NSF USA (7 times), Spanish National Agency of Biotechnology (ANEP), FNRS Belgium and FWO. HE is also Peer-reviewer for: Nature, Science, Nature Plants, Molecular Cell, Developmental Cell, EMBO J., PLOS biology, PLOS genetics, PNAS, Genome Biology, Genome Research, Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Plant Physiology, Nucleic Acids research, Molecular and General Genetics, Plant Cell and Environment, J. Exp. Botany. He was Associate Editor of the Plant Cell and Physiology PCP Journal (Japan); 2015-2020 and member of Faculty Opinions board on Plant Epigenetics. Editor of a book about Genomics of Roots and their Soil Interactions (Wiley). Member of 34 International Conferences and Workshops Organizing Committees.
