Honours and Awards
  • November 2016 onwards: Coordinator, Inter-university Master in Advanced English Studies and Its Applications, organised jointly by the Universities of Santiago de Compostela, Coruña and Vigo.
  • 1 January 2012 - 31 May 2016: appointment by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness to coordinate the assessment of research projects submitted to the National Research Plan (areas covered: English Language and Literature, Modern Languages and Literatures, Translation).
  • 26 December 2001 - 16 March 2005: Chair of the National Committee for the Assessment of Research on Languages and Linguistics ('Comisión Nacional Evaluadora de la Actividad Investigadora'), appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
  • July 2006: awarded a Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Education and the Regional Government of Galicia (Directorate General for Scientific and Technological Promotion, grant no. 2006/19; 34.000 euros) for one year’s research leave.
  • January 2006 onwards: Coordinator, English Linguistics Circle. The English Linguistics Circle (ELC) was officially recognised as a research network in 2006, under funding from the Regional Government of Galicia; it comprises five research teams based at the Universities of Santiago de Compostela and Vigo and led by Professors Teresa Fanego (USC), J. Carlos Acuña Fariña (USC), Rosa Alonso (UVigo), Ignacio Palacios (USC) and Javier Pérez Guerra (UVigo). Since 2006 ELC has received funds amounting to 482,725 euros, from the Regional Government of Galicia, the Spanish Ministry of Education, and the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.
  • October 2005-September 2013: Editor-in-Chief of Folia Linguistica. [Volumes edited: 40 (2006) - 47 (2013).]]
  • September 2005: elected to the Executive Committee of the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE), and appointed Editor-in-Chief of Folia Linguistica, the peer-reviewed journal edited for SLE by Mouton de Gruyter, Berlin. I succeeded Wolfgang U. Dressler, Professor of General Linguistics at the University of Vienna and Editor of Folia Linguistica between 1981 and 2005.
  • August 2000: elected to the Scientific Committee of the Societas Linguistica Europaea.
  • November 1997: received the 1996 Award for Research in the Humanities, Regional Government of Galicia. 4.600 euros.
  • October 1990 onwards: Director, Research Unit for Variation, Linguistic Change and Grammaticalization (reference code: GI-1383), University of Santiago de Compostela. Over the years the research unit has received 11 research grants from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and 7 from the Regional Goverment of Galicia. A very large number of the researchers who prepared their PhD thanks to postgraduate grants awarded to Teresa Fanego now hold tenured positions as Full Professors, Associate Professors or University Lecturers: J.
