Yun Fu - Biography#

Prof. Fu received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. He is tenured Professor affiliated with both College of Engineering and Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, Boston. He has done extraordinary seminal research in the area of Artificial Intelligence, especially computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning. He has published in total over 450 publications (mostly in leading IEEE or ACM transactions, Nature or topmost AI conferences of NeurIPS, CVPR, ICCV, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, KDD). His “Residual Dense Network for Image Super-Resolution” in CVPR2018 has been among the Top 10 Most Influential CVPR paper. He received AI2000 Most Influential Scholar Award in 2020 and 2021. He is IEEE Fellow, OSA Fellow, SPIE Fellow, IAPR Fellow, AAIA Fellow, ACM Distinguished member, ACM Future of Computing Academy member, Global Young Academy member, and AAAI lifetime Senior member; and he has received 9 prestigious Young Investigator/Early Career Awards from National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Army Research Office (ARO), IEEE, ACM, International Neural Networks Society (INNS), Grainger Foundation; 12 Best Paper Awards from IEEE, ACM, SIAM, IAPR, SPIE; numerous prestigious Industrial Faculty Awards from Google, Amazon, Samsung, JPMorgan, Cisco, NEC, Snap, MERL, Konica Minolta, Zebra, Adobe, and Mathworks, etc. Dr. Fu is also a successful serial entrepreneur for technology commercialization. He was the Founder and President of Giaran, a spinoff from Northeastern University, focusing on developing neural network based augmented reality and facial image processing technologies. It was acquired by the prestigious global cosmetic firm Shiseido in 2017 to impact and transform the global thousands-of-million e-commerce market.
