Helge Holden - Biography#
Helge Holden is Dr. Philos. from the University of Oslo in 1985, with R. Høegh-Krohn as supervisor. He was a research assistant at the University of Oslo until moving to NTNU in 1986, first as associate professor, and then as full professor from 1991. His research interests are nonlinear partial differential equations, with special emphasis on hyperbolic conservation laws, completely integrable systems, and flow in porous media. He has published more than 100 papers in international journals and is the coauthor of six research monographs and one textbook. He has coedited 12 books.
A conference at NTNU on the occasion of Holden's 60th birthday was held in 2016, with a long list of distinguished speakers (see https://wiki.math.ntnu.no/holden60).
Holden has served the mathematical community in a number of important ways - ranging from national (President of the Royal Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Chair of the Abel Board, Chair of the Abel Prize Committee), European (Secretary and Vice-President of EMS, Chair of ECMI, Chair of ERC Panels), and international (Secretary General of IMU).
