Chun-Chieh Huang - Biography#

Chun-chieh Huang, PhD (1980) of the University of Washington (Seattle, USA), used to serve as Adviser to the Confucian Ethics Team of Singapore Ministry of Education. He was elected as Visiting Professor of the University of Washington, the President (Now Honorary President) of Chinese Association for General Education, and the President (2010-11) of the international Society for Cultural Interaction in East Asia based on Kansai University, Japan. He is currently Distinguished Chair Professor of National Taiwan University (NTU).

Professor Huang is a Member of Academic Advisory Committee of Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He was the Dean (2008-2017) of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences at NTU. He has been awarded the Wang Fellowship in Chinese Studies, USA (1988), Outstanding Scholar Award (1997-2002), Hu Shih Chair Professorship (2005-6), Sun Yat-sen Academic Award (2006), National Award of Teaching Excellence in General Education (2011), National Academic Award (2011), National Chair Professor(2013-16), Ministry of Education, Taiwan, and the National Award for Distinguished Service, Executive Yuan, Taiwan, Republic of China (R.O.C.)

In addition to 32 volumes in Chinese, Professor Huang authors four books in English, including East Asian Confucianisms: Texts in Contexts (2015), Taiwan in Transformation: Retrospect and Prospect (2014), Mencian Hermeneutics: A History of Interpretations in China (2001) and Humanism in East Asian Confucian Context (2010). His most recent books in Chinese include Discourses of Humanity in East Asian Confucianisms: A History (NTU Press, 2017), Confucianism and Chinese Historical Thinking (NTU Press, 2014), Confucian Classics and Their Ideas in the Cultural Interaction in East Asia (NTU Press, 2010), East Asian Confucianisms: Dialectics between the Classics and Interpretations (NTU Press, 2007) and A History of the Interpretations of the Analects in Tokugawa Japan (NTU Press, 2007). Many of professor Huang’s books had been translated into English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and Slovene.
