Maurizio Lenzerini is considered one of the world leaders in two areas of Computer Science, namely, Data Management and Knowledge Representation. In Data Management, he contributed to shaping the field of information integration.

In Knowledge Representation, Maurizio Lenzerini was one the founders of the research on Description Logics, and the initiator os such research in Europe. Besides contributing to each of the above areas separately, he also made fundamental contributions at the interface of these two areas.
