Vivian Liska is Senior Professor of German literature and Director of the Institute of Jewish Studies at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She is also, since 2013, Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Faculty of the Humanities at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and Visiting Professor (2014-2017), member of the Visiting Staff at the German Center of NYU University. Her research focuses on modernist literature, German-Jewish literature and culture, and literary theory. She has published extensively on modernist and contemporary German and German-Jewish authors and thinkers. She is the editor or co-editor of numerous books, among them the two volume ICLA publication Modernism and What does the Veil Know? She is the editor of the book series “Perspectives on Jewish Texts and Contexts” (De Gruyter, Berlin.)

She is the author of, among other monographs, Die Nacht der Hymnen (on Paul Celan); Die Moderne, ein Weib (on Turn of the Century German Women novelists); Das schelmische Erhabene (On Else Lasker-Schüler); Giorgio Agambens leerer Messianismus and When Kafka Says We. Her most recent book is Fremde Gemeinschaft. Deutsch-jüdische Literatur der Moderne . She is currently writing a book entitled „German-Jewish Thought and its Aftermath: A Tenuous Legacy“ to be published with Indiana University Press (2015-2016).
