Awards and Distinctions#
- 2024: Optica (formerly the Optical Society of America, OSA) announced that Franco Nori has been selected as the 2024 recipient of the Charles Hard Townes Medal. Nori is honored for his many fundamental contributions to quantum optics, quantum information processing, and quantum circuits, and for the development of key quantum software tools.
Established in 1980, the Townes Medal recognizes outstanding research work in the field of quantum electronics. The medal honors Charles Hard Townes, whose pioneering contributions led to the development of the field of quantum electronics.
- 2024: Received a Research Doctorate Honoris Causa (i.e., an Honorary Doctorate) in Physics, from the University of Messina, Italy, established in 1548. One of these Honorary Doctorates is awarded each year, but only in one discipline, among the many covered by the University (including economics, medicine, and many other fields). The title of the Magister Lecture was: “Superconducting quantum micro-electronics using artificial atoms, for future quantum optics, opto-electronics, and quantum information”.
