Željko Reiner - Biography#
Professor Željko Reiner was born in 1953 in Zagreb, Croatia and he got his MD and PhD degrees at Zagreb University. He was visiting scientist in USA, Germany and France and is for many years consultant in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolic diseases as well as preventive cardiology in Zagreb University Hospital Center, Croatia. He has published many papers (most of them could be found in PubMed) and was editor or coauthor of 38 books, textbooks and manuals published in Croatia (Pharmacotherapy handbook, Internal medicine textbook etc.) and abroad as well as the author of chapters in 36 books (eg. ESC textbook for preventive medicine etc.). He was chairman of the National committee for awarding the title of “Chief Physician” (primarius) (1998-2000). Since 2010 he is member of the University of Zagreb Council. He was an expert reviewer engaged by the European Commission for the evaluation of research projects proposed to be funded within the FP6 and FP7. Since 1988 he was principal investigator of many scientific programs and projects financed by the Ministry of Science of Croatia, by the University of Zagreb and a national coordinator of many international multicenter clinical trials as well as member of international boards and steering committees of several clinical trials. He was also a co-investigator in a number of clinical trials and projects. Professor Reiner is widely recognized as one of the most important European preventive cardiologists and one of the leading scientists in this field.
