Astrid Söderbergh Widding - Biography#


Astrid Söderbergh Widding obtained her PhD in Cinema Studies 1992 with a dissertation on off screen space in Andrei Tarkovsky's films. She was appointed Professor in Cinema Studies in 2000 and has held positions as Head of Department, Deputy Dean and Deputy President.

In 2006 she was responsible for the establishment of the Centre for Fashion Studies, and in 2009 she initiated the Open Access Journal of Aesthetics and Culture, for which she was Editor-in-Chief from 2009 to 2012. She has also worked as film critic and media columnist for several years in national daily Svenska Dagbladet.

She is Chair of the Board for the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions, chair of the Board of the Bibsam Consortium, member of the EUA Council, of the EUA Research Policy Working Group, of the Board of Aarhus University and of the Board of Swedish Environment Institute.

Previous commissions include chairmanship for the Principal Council of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and for the Ingmar Bergman Foundation, as well as roles on the Board for the Swedish Film Institute, in the Advisory Council of the National Library of Sweden,in King Gustaf VI Adolf’s fund for Swedish Culture, in the Fulbright Commission and in several panels at the Swedish Research Council, the Norwegian Research Council, the Academy of Finland and the Danish Accreditation Institution.
