Piotr Winkielman - Biography#
Dr. Piotr Winkielman is Professor of Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, and Visiting Faculty at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Warsaw, in his native Poland. He studied psychology at the University of Warsaw, Poland, and the University of Bielefeld, Germany (Dipl.-Psych., 1991) and received a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA (1997). After a post-doctoral year at Ohio State University (1998) and an assistant professorship at the University of Denver (1998-2003), he joined the University of California, San Diego (2003-present). He held a professorial appointment at the University of Warwick, UK, and was a frequent visitor at University College London, UK.
Dr. Winkielman’s research focuses on the interplay of feeling and thinking in judgment and decision making with a particular interest in embodied processes and the role of consciousness. He has published about 150 articles that have been cited 24,000 times (H = 88). His high professional standing is reflected in his appointments as Associate Editor of leading American and European journals (including Psychological Review and Emotion) and Consulting Editor/Board Member of numerous others (including, Journal of Personality and Social Psychology; Social Psychological Bulletin).
