Biography:

Professor Youming Zhang obtained his Ph.D in 1995 under supervision of Prof. Peter Nawroth in University of Heidelberg to study the relationship of tissue factor and tumor angiogenesis. After 2-year post-doctoral research in the same laboratory, he joined Dr. Francis Stewart’s laboratory in European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), where he developed the Red/ET Recombineering technology and published the fundamental technology in Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, etc..

He cofounded the Gene Bridges GmbH in 2000 to commercialize the Red/ET Recombination technology. As the chief scientific officer he was responsible for the R&D till 2013 and published in Nature Biotechnology, Nature Methods et al..

Since 2013 he has been the Director of Shandong University–Helmholtz Institute of Biotechnology and also the Director of State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology in Shandong University, China. To promote the scientific cooperation between Germany and China, he bridged the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research and Shandong University to set up a joint Shandong University-Helmholtz Institute of Biotechnology (SHIB) in Qingdao. After he built the research team in SHIB, he has published in Nature Protocols, Nature Nanotechnology, PNAS, etc..
